This is certainly McCarthyism, Steve. I agree that not only is the "chain-sawing of VOA by the executive branch illegal, but there is also a First Amendment argument that VOA was muted because it could not be converted, under present law, into an administration mouthpiece."
I've worked with many journalists over my professional career and as a former board member at the National VOA Museum of Broadcasting in West Chester, and was singularly impressed by VOA journalists' ethics, talent, courage and perseverance while covering heart-rending and dangerous stories. VOA's reporting was inspired and inspiring- the best of the best- especially your reporting on the Ukraine invasion.
Democracy is worth fighting for, and the world deserves to have VOA's "tell the truth and let the world decide" reporting back on the airwaves.
Thank you, Steve, for all you have done for VOA. Your round-the-clock reporting on all platforms over the years was exemplary. So too has been your tireless effort and dedication to try to preserve VOA’s mission amid overwhelming odds. Honored to have been your colleague. Wishing you much success in your future endeavors.
Being on the front lines of a challenge is nothing new to you, Steve. There's so much more riding on this than just whether VOA continues to broadcast or not, and we're grateful that you, Patsy, and others have committed yourselves to this fight. 73 es rock on!
Chautauqua program year before last. You impressed us with your incites and presentations. We had lovely times at dinner along with your charming wife. We are angry, frustrated and sad about the debacles and terrible actions of this administration . We wish you strength to fight the fight and we will be cheering you and your colleagues on. Marcia is a tough Cincy gal and she is my partner.
